For mortals. No 575's here. What average vehicle makes you want to beat yourself with a torque wrench rather than turn a ratchet?

Kinja'd!!!

For me, 1st gen Cirrus/Stratus, 2.5 Mutsu v6. 1/4 inch clearance between the pulley and fender means you practically have to pull the engine to change a serpentine. You do need to pull the engine to change the water pump (driven by the timing belt, and yes it IS an interference design). Battery in the wheel well. And good luck with rear plugs, given over 50% of the engine is below the cowl with about one inch of clearance.

4th gen Camaro/Firebirds were effectively front-mid engined, with half the engine tucked under the cowl.

Pretty much any Japanese transverse engined cars. Our GT-FOUR was the absolute worst, because it had all the turbo piping and the engine piping. Those Japanese sure know how to cram a ton of stuff into an engine bay.

E38 starter removal according to Chilton’s:

735i: 12 steps

740i: 8 steps

750i: 27 steps

horrible engine to work on, theirs nothing on the right side of the engine and a bit of space, the other side has everything and no space at all. you have to move the engine every time you do anything on it.

3rd gen Prelude engines. B20A5/B21A1. The H-series on the 4th and 5th gen are absolute caverns by comparison.

The RB26DETT on the R32 GT-R is also pretty cramped. My coworker has been driving one recently (it’s gorgeous in white) and the alternator belt broke. He said he had to take a few random things off to get the new belt on.

Although the more basic NA 3S motors in the ST chassis cars have a lot of room to work. It’s just that they decided to smoosh as much turbo stuff in there as they could.

Mazda’s K series V6 isn’t too bad, you can do a timing belt relatively easily, I’ve done cams by just taking the IM off, starter motor and alternator etc are pretty easy to get to. It is however a V6 specifically designed to be as compact as possible.

Can you replace the spark plugs and valve cover gaskets without removing it?

Kinja'd!!! TA4K > dogisbadob

You can do the spark plugs very easily, the front valve cover gasket can be done but you do have to pull it for the rear. It is actually quite easy to take off however.
